He didn't win or place, but Matthew Riddle showed the international coffee-drinking community a thing or two last weekend.
Riddle, who works for Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea on the North Side, came in third in the World Barista Championships in Bern, Switzerland.
A "barista" is someone who makes specialty coffees like espresso.
Last month, Riddle won the U.S. Barista Championships in Charlotte, N.C. The competition involved serving 12 coffee drinks -- including four espressos and four cappuccinos -- within 15 minutes to a group of judges. Riddle beat 44 other contestants to win.
