Peter Meehan and Nell Newman, founders of Newman's Own Organics, spent part of last week in New England "basking in newfound glory."

That's because McDonald's restaurants are partnering with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. of Waterbury, Vt., to source, roast and package Newman's Own Organics Blend coffee exclusively for more than 650 McDonald's restaurants in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Albany, N.Y.

Santa Cruz resident Newman, the daughter of actors Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, started Newman's Own Organics with business partner Meehan 12 years ago as an offshoot of her father's Newman's Own charitable salad dressing, pasta sauce and popcorn company. Four years ago, Newman's Own Organics became an independent company.
